Despite the meteoric rise of social media as a source for information, most Floridians still trust television over social media to get their news. That is one of the findings from a University of Florida study about news consumption habits and trust in news.

Nexstar Media Group has agreed to buy Tribune Media for about $4.1 billion, creating the largest owner of local TV stations in the U.S.
In 2014, Tribune Media, then known as Tribune Co., spun off its publishing division, including the Chicago Tribune and other newspapers, retaining its broadcast and real estate assets.

Brian Knox, president of W. D. Hoard & Sons Company, has announced that the newspaper division of the company has been sold to Adams Publishing Group. The Daily Jefferson County Union and the affiliated Hometown News Limited Partnership publish 13 community newspapers and shoppers, stretching across parts of six counties in south central Wisconsin.

Watertown Times sold to Adams Publishing Group
James M. Clifford has announced that the Watertown (Wis.) Daily Times and Dodge County Independent News have been sold to Adams Publishing Group. The Watertown Daily Times is published Monday through Friday and the Dodge County Independent News weekly. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Paxton Media Group acquires Kentucky New Era
The Kentucky New Era Group has sold its daily newspaper in Hopkinsville and four non-daily newspapers to Paducah-based Paxton Media Group.
Dirks, Van Essen, Murray & April, a media merger and acquisition firm based in Santa Fe, N.M., represented Kentucky New Era Group in the transaction. Terms were not disclosed.

Tyler Morning Telegraph being acquired by M. Roberts Media
After more than a century of continuous family ownership and management by the Clyde and Bothwell families, the daily Tyler (Texas) Morning Telegraph is changing owners.
The paper is being acquired by M. Roberts Media, a family-owned newspaper group that operates the Longview News-Journal, Marshall News Messenger, Panola Watchman and the Victoria Advocate in Texas. The new ownership took effect Dec. 1.

Log Cabin Democrat moves to new location
As 2019 approaches, longtime Conway, Ark., institutions – the city main offices and the 140-year-old newspaper – each will move locations.
The Log Cabin Democrat and its staff are moving from its current location on the first floor of the Federal Building on Main Street to its new spot at 1121 Front St.

America's Newspapers – the association formed from the merger of the Inland Press Association and Southern Newspaper Publishers Association – was ceremonially launched October 6 at its inaugural annual meeting in Chicago.
Dean Ridings will be its chief executive officer, effective Nov. 11.
America's Newspapers unites two of the oldest press associations to form one of the industry's largest advocates for newspapers and the many benefits to their communities, civil life, freedom of expression and democracy.
"Newspaper journalism provides a voice for the voiceless, challenges elected officials, shines a light on government, calls for change when change is needed, and exposes corruption and injustice," said Chris Reen, the president and publisher of The Gazette in Colorado Springs who will serve as the first president of America's Newspapers.

New association launches today;
SNPA-Inland merger is complete
A new association formed by the consolidation of SNPA and the Inland Press Association was officially launched today. The name of the new association will be announced on Oct. 6 at the association's first annual meeting in Chicago.
Edward VanHorn, SNPA's executive director, said that the merger unites two of the country's oldest press associations into a progressive new organization that will use its bigger and more powerful voice to be an unapologetic advocate for newspapers.

Edward VanHorn, who went to work for SNPA 43 years ago straight out of the University of North Carolina, will be honored at next week's SNPA-Inland Annual Meeting as this year's recipient of the Frank W. Mayborn Leadership Award. The award is named for the Texas newspaperman who helped shape SNPA in the early 1950s and served as president from 1961 to 1962.
"He's been that silent leader behind the newspaper industry and SNPA," said SNPA President PJ Browning, president and publisher of The Post and Courier in Charleston, S.C. "We're honored to have the opportunity to give him this award as he's retiring. We thought it was very fitting."
