The Argus Observer in Ontario, Ore., has an opening for a full-time talented journalist to join our news team, focusing on education and the Ontario city government, as well myriad other assignments.
We print five editions per week, and post news online nearly every day.
In addition, our reporters also contribute to two magazines that each print multiple times per year, as well as several specialty publications.
The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, while being able to balance meeting deadlines for daily assignments and special section assignments, while still having a sense of urgency when it comes to covering breaking news.
The successful candidate also would have an eye for visual storytelling, offering a variety of photo choices as well as story elements including quotes, breakout boxes and more.
Adobe Photoshop and InDesign skills are ideal, but not required.
A successful applicant will come to weekly reporter meetings with several ideas for projects, and be willing to collaborate with the editor and reporters on bringing those ideas to fruition. Ideally, candidates will be familiar with social media and be willing to engage with the community on these platforms as stories go live.
Schedule will vary according to workload; night and weekend work is required.
A journalism or communication degree or at least four years of experience in a newsroom is preferred but we will accept applications from recent graduates.
We are on the Oregon-Idaho border and located 57 miles from Boise, Idaho.
