New company formed by Charles H. Morris Jr. buys papers in Gainesville, Cumming and Dawsonville 4/17/18

Charles H. Morris Sr., CEO and president of Morris Multimedia Inc., announced April 16 the sale of The Times (Gainesville, Ga.) and The Poultry Times to Metro Market Media, a newly formed company owned by his son, Charles H. Morris, Jr.

In a separate transaction, Morris Sr. also sold from an affiliated company the Forsyth County News (Cumming, Ga.) and Dawson County News (Dawsonville, Ga.) to Morris Jr. and MMM.

Charles Hill Morris Jr. of Swartz-Morris Media, the parent company of the Forsyth County News, has announced Stephanie Woody's appointment as the new publisher of the paper in Cumming, Ga.

Forsyth County News Publisher Vince Johnson says that when he came to the paper a couple of years ago, it had a rule about social media. Only one article was posted to Facebook each day, at 6 a.m.

In his entry form for the Mega-Innovation competition, Johnson noted that rule officially died on Jan. 20, 2014. Since then, the paper has increased its social media following by more than 1,000 percent.

That's just one example of how the Forsyth County News, described by Johnson as "wildly traditional" not so long ago, has changed.
