An important moment in history 7/16/19

It's never been more important for our industry to speak with one voice and champion the value of local news. Combining the experience and talents of the Inland Press Association and the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association will help ensure that voice remains loud and clear.

We will continue to serve the mission and constituents of these two longstanding organizations as we plot a new course for the traditional newspaper business. Not only will we continue to provide the networking and training opportunities both organizations are known for, we will tackle many of the biggest issues facing our members.

We will maintain a keen focus on the power and importance of local journalism and the myriad ways we serve our unique communities. We don't write and report for the pundits in Washington, D.C.; we write and report for the people who live and work in the areas we serve. It will become increasingly important for us to widely share that message.

SNPA-Poynter Leadership Academy to be held July 29-Aug. 1 7/1/19

The SNPA Foundation has launched a new executive development program in partnership with The Poynter Institute.

Twelve participants were selected from nominations submitted by SNPA member newspapers.

This four-day SNPA Leadership Academy – to be held July 29-Aug. 1 in St. Petersburg, Fla. – will take a deep dive into mastering leadership skills needed to succeed in top management positions at newspapers.

SNPA and Inland to consolidate! 7/1/19

I am happy to announce that the members of SNPA and Inland have voted overwhelming to consolidate into a new association that will launch on October 1. This is great news for the newspaper industry!

The consolidation is the result of many months of hard work by leaders from both SNPA and Inland. Our united goal was to develop a new association that will build on our strengths to serve our members not just for today, but also for the future.

The new association will provide a strong voice for newspapers, promote the indispensable value of newspaper journalism to local communities, and support newspapers as they adapt their business models to a quickly changing landscape.

P.J. Browning elected president of SNPA for 2018-19 10/10/18

P.J. Browning, publisher of The Post and Courier in Charleston, S.C., was elected president of SNPA for 2018-19 at the News Industry Summit in Nashville.

Three additional officers and eight members of the SNPA Board of Directors also were elected.

Greg Watson joins SNPA staff as chief marketing officer 8/19/18

Greg Watson, who owned a strategic marketing consulting firm for the past five years and formerly worked with Gannett Co. Inc., has joined the SNPA staff. Watson will serve as chief marketing officer and assistant executive director, with responsibility for planning and executing strategies that promote SNPA's brand and programs.

SNPA names Carl Esposito to serve on Board of Directors 8/3/18

Carl Esposito, publisher of The Daily Times in Maryville, Tenn., and regional president of Adams Publishing Group for Tennessee, North Carolina and Southern Virginia, has been named to the SNPA Board of Directors.

Esposito, who will serve in an at-large position on the board, said: "I appreciate the opportunity to join such an accomplished group and look forward to contributing to the ongoing success of SNPA."
