Gaddy promoted to publisher of Griffin Daily News

Joy Gaddy has been named publisher of the Griffin (Ga.) Daily News to succeed David Clevenger, who has retired.  Gaddy was advertising director of the newspaper.

She was hired by former Griffin Daily News owner Quimby Melton Jr. in 1976 to work in the classified sales department.  She then worked in outside sales and later as the sales manager.  She was promoted to advertising director in February 1999.

Clevenger had been publisher of the Griffin Daily News since March 2004. During his career, he worked for five newspaper companies, including The New York Times Co.

In other news, the paper announced this week:

The Griffin Daily News building at 323 E. Solomon St. is for sale. And as some have wondered about the implications, GDN Publisher Joy Gaddy said the newspaper is merely trying to move into a new location.

"We've had a long tenure here, but the building has outgrown us," said Gaddy. "We just want to let people know that we are not closing."

The property, which was built in 1948, includes five parcels and four buildings, situated on 1.16 acres, according to the website of Ann Imes & Associates Realtors, which is handling the sale. The list price is $450,000.

Gaddy said a new location for the Griffin Daily News has not yet been determined and depends on the current property being sold. When that has happened, the newspaper would like to stay within city limits, if possible, she said.

Any change of location by the Griffin Daily News would not affect its readers.

"We will continue to provide the same service our customers, subscribers and advertisers have come to know and appreciate over the years, no matter where we are located," said Gaddy. (Reprinted from the Griffin Daily News)
