GateHouse Media names new regional vice presidents

GateHouse Media, LLC recently announced a realignment of properties into Central and Eastern U.S. Divisions, completing an organizational restructuring that began with the creation of the Western U.S. Division in June of this year. The moves integrate previously independent legacy operations to recognize synergies, increase engagement, improve communication and create new revenue opportunities. As part of these organizational changes, GateHouse Media executives were named to new regional vice president roles, effective immediately.

Rick Martin, central region publisher for the Company's properties in Florida, Alabama and Louisiana, has been named regional vice president of the GateHouse Media Central U.S. Division and will oversee properties in Illinois, Ohio, New York and Michigan. Martin will report to Brad Harmon, president and publisher of The Columbus Dispatch.

Prior to Halifax Media operations being acquired by GateHouse Media, Martin served as the COO of Halifax Media. He has been in the industry for over 20 years, including management roles with Media General, Thompson Newspapers and Freedom Communications. Martin graduated from Auburn University with a degree in marketing. "Rick brings great depth of experience in all aspects of the industry and has an extremely collaborative style. He will take this group to new heights and be a great partner as we evolve the Central U.S. Division," said Harmon.

GateHouse Media's Eastern U.S. Division announced several promotions to regional vice president; these executives will report to Bernie Szachara, president of GateHouse Media Eastern U.S. Operations.

Patrick Dorsey has been named regional vice president of the Eastern Division's Coastal Publishing Group, covering properties in Florida, Alabama and Louisiana. Dorsey will continue to serve as publisher of Herald-Tribune Media Group, based in Sarasota, Fla., a role he has held since 2012. A graduate of Old Dominion University, he began his career as a certified public accountant in Virginia before starting in media with Gannett as an internal auditor. Dorsey spent 20 years in roles of increasing responsibility at six different operations across the country before serving as publisher of the Tallahassee Democrat prior to coming to Sarasota.

Peter Meyer has been named regional vice president of the Cape Publishing Group. Meyer will continue to serve as publisher of the Cape Cod Times and The Standard-Times and add oversight of the Worcester and Portsmouth newspapers to his responsibilities. He has served as publisher for 12 years and previously held positions in operations and general management during his 34 years with Dow Jones. Meyer attended Western Michigan University and earned an MBA from Suffolk University.

Janet Hasson, president and publisher of The Providence Journal, will lead the Providence Publishing Group as regional vice-president. She will continue to serve as president and publisher of The Providence Journal, a position she has held since March 2015, and will add oversight of the Nantucket Media Group and Norwich Bulletin to her responsibilities. Hasson's previous executive roles include president and publisher of the Journal News Media Group and senior vice president of audience development at the Detroit Media Partnership. She is a graduate of Eastern Washington University.

Lucy Talley will serve as regional vice-president of the Southern Atlantic Publishing Group, consisting of GateHouse Media's North and South Carolina properties and Tennessee. She will continue to serve as publisher of The Gaston Gazette and The Star in Shelby, N.C. Prior to joining Halifax in May 2014, Talley was vice president of Community Newspapers for Hearst. She served as president and publisher of the Florida-based Times-Union Media Company from 2008 to 2012 and served with other media companies, including the Evening Post Publishing, Morris Communications and The New York Times Regional Newspaper Group.

Joe Vanderhoof, regional vice president of the Mid-Atlantic Publishing Group will continue to serve as president and publisher of the Times Herald-Record and Pocono Record. Sean Burke will continue in his role as president and group publisher at GateHouse Media New England, overseeing operations of more than 120 daily, weekly and shopper publications throughout Eastern Massachusetts.
