Darrell K. Lewis, an accomplished newspaper marketing executive, has been appointed publisher and advertising director of the Effingham (Ill.) Daily News. Lewis also will oversee the Shelbyville (Ill.) Daily Union, a sister publication.

Lewis succeeds Paul Semple, who recently retired as publisher after a newspaper career that spanned four decades. Lewis comes to Effingham from Gannett Co. Inc., where he was regional director of client relations and business-to-business marketing for The Greenville (S.C.) News and the Asheville (N.C.) Citizen-Times.

He previously served as the director of marketing for the Gannett-owned Springfield (Mo.) News.-Leader, vice president of sales and marketing for Standard Publishing of Cincinnati, Ohio, and senior marketing director for the Kroger Company.

"Darrell is a great fit for the Effingham Daily News and the market it serves," said Robyn McCloskey, senior vice president of operations for Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc., parent company of the newspaper.

"He has the experience, leadership skills and vision to lead our dedicated team in Effingham with confidence and inspiration."

Lewis has been honored for his marketing skills by the International News Media Association and Gannett. He holds a master's degree in business administration, with a concentration in marketing, from Northern Kentucky University.

"I'm honored to serve as the publisher for the Effingham Daily News and lead a team with such depth and experience," said Lewis. "It not only provides important news and information, but serves as a catalyst for community conversation. I look forward to being part of such a vibrant and engaging community."
