SNPA President Charles Hill Morris announced plans on the closing day of the News Industry Summit for SNPA to host a two-day workshop on publishing success in the digital era, in partnership with Penny Abernathy and the University of North Carolina.  Watch for more information soon about this program to be held in the spring.

Here are the remarks made by SNPA's new president as the gavel was passed in Charlottesville, Va.:

"Thank you, Tom, for a year of dynamic and thought-provoking leadership. Under your stewardship the association is on strong financial footing and member engagement is up across all areas, from meeting attendance to membership.

"I am honored and humbled to be part of a long heritage of leaders of this great organization.  As members of this association we are fortunate to have the most professionally managed organization in the industry.  Edward, Cindy, Paulette and Howard all do an outstanding job, always accomplishing amazing feats, time and time again.

"Our board is one that is always engaged, asks challenging questions and arrives at logical conclusions.  Thank you all for giving your time so freely to engage with each other and this association. You are what makes this association what it is.

"Thank you to my wife and parents for their love and support; I certainly would not be the person that I am without them.

"For as long as I have been attending SNPA events, I have always felt welcomed, enlightened and reinvigorated.  This to me is the hallmark of the SNPA experience, and I know it is what brings people back time and time again.

"I know that we are all glad to have the past few years behind us. While the pathway forward is not fully laid out before us, with Penny's guidance and the help of others I believe we have at least a roadmap for the steps that need to be taken to get on the right road to regrowth.

"I have never heard it said that realizing success is easy, and thus we have a lot of work ahead as we continue to reframe the businesses that we all know and cherish.  SNPA is a great facilitator of this reframing, and the association will help in every way to make this conversation and pathway as obstacle free as possible.

"To that end, SNPA has partnered with Penny and the University of North Carolina and is going to offer a two-day workshop on publishing success in the digital era.  We look forward to this exciting learning experience and know that publishers, regardless of market size, will all benefit from Penny's experience and research on the topic.

"If there is anything you would like to see from SNPA over the next year, please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or a member of the staff.  We are always looking for ways to enhance your SNPA experience.  Thank you again for your confidence and support, and now let's have a wonderful concluding day and an outstanding year to come."
