NEWSCYCLE Solutions has acquired Atex Inc., the Atex AdBase advertising systems business, from Atex Group Ltd. NEWSCYCLE was formed in July through the merger of DTI and Saxotech, two leading providers of news media publishing solutions. With the addition of Atex Inc., NEWSCYCLE now provides innovative software to the global news media industry serving more than 500 media companies in more than 30 countries around the world.

NEWSCYCLE Solutions also announced the appointment of Preston McKenzie, a former executive with Landmark Media and Thomson Reuters, as its chief executive officer. McKenzie joins NEWSCYCLE Solutions from MicroEdge LLC where he served as CEO since 2010. Both MicroEdge and NEWSCYCLE Solutions are portfolio companies of Vista Equity Partners, a leading private equity firm focused on long-term value-added investments in software and technology-enabled services.

"I am fortunate to join the company at this incredible point in our history. With the acquisition of Atex Inc. and its successful AdBase business, we are gaining market-leading technologies and prestigious customers that put NEWSCYCLE in an extremely strong position in our industry," said Preston McKenzie, chief executive officer of NEWSCYCLE Solutions.  "I began my career in the newspaper industry and that gives me a deep appreciation of the importance of what our customers do. NEWSCYCLE is committed to the success of the news media industry and we have resources to be the industry's most trusted technology partner for the long term."

In acquiring the Atex AdBase business, NEWSCYCLE Solutions has added operations based in Florida, Massachusetts and Sweden. Atex AdBase advertising is now part of the NEWSCYCLE Solutions portfolio and will be incorporated into the company's strategic roadmap. More than 220 media companies around the world depend on AdBase including Gannett, Dow Jones, McClatchy Newspapers, Singapore Press Holdings and The Stampen Group.

"This is an exciting opportunity to join forces with the company that has quickly become a leading provider of software for the news media industry," said Scott Roessler, the new chief operating officer of NEWSCYCLE, and former CEO Americas at Atex. "NEWSCYCLE clearly has a bold vision and the financial stability to deliver what publishers need: a strategic platform for growing revenue and integrating digital and print across their enterprises.  Speaking for my Atex colleagues, we are thrilled to be part of the company that can turn that vision into reality."

"When we announced the formation of NEWSCYCLE less than 100 days ago, we said we were building an exciting business that would have the scale and stability to support our customers' technology needs for years to come," said Dan Paulus, president of NEWSCYCLE Solutions. "Obviously, we are working aggressively to fulfill that prediction. We welcome the leadership of Preston McKenzie as our new CEO and our new colleagues from Atex as we focus on meeting our customers' high expectations for quality and innovation."
