NCPA is turning 141

NCPA celebrates anniversary with The Newspaper Baton

Posted

The North Carolina Press Association will turn 141 next month and it's celebrating with a photographic love letter to one of the state's oldest industries via one of the newest social apps.

This project, called NewspaperBaton, will run on Instagram from April 14 through its anniversary date of May 14. NCPA will choose 31 people to "carry the baton" for each day in between.

What role do newspapers play in your life? Do you start your morning with a cup of coffee and the local paper? Or do you get your news from Twitter? Maybe you glance at the headlines on the paper in your office. Or maybe you're the one who turns news into a newspaper. Whoever you are, NCPA wants to see a day in that life!

Jessica Kennedy of the NCPA, says: "Our project, NewspaperBaton, is modeled after projects in cities around the nation in which people sign up for a day, post several photos with a caption about a specific topic, then pass the "baton" on to the next person who signed up for the next day. For example, New York City did an NYCbaton, and the Raleigh-Durham area does a daily RDUbaton, showing great restaurants, buildings, tourist spots and just nice pics around the RDU area."

Here's how to follow NCPA's NewspaperBaton: the Instagram handle is @NewspaperBaton, accessed on a computer at http://instagram.com/newspaperbaton. NCPA also will post weekly updates with scheduled posters for the week every Sunday afternoon on its Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/NewspaperBaton.
