A Walker County native and 20-year veteran of the newspaper industry has been named as the next publisher of the Daily Mountain Eagle in Jasper, Ala.

James Phillips, who was publisher of The Star-Herald in Kosciusko, Miss., succeeds Jack McNeely, who recently was named publisher of The Herald-Citizen in Cookeville, Tenn., a sister publication of Walls Newspapers.

"I'm excited to be coming home to the Daily Mountain Eagle," Phillips said. "This newspaper holds a special place in my heart, because it is my hometown paper. It is also a location where I have spent much of my career."
