ProImage helps newspaper save 25 percent of ink cost

For printers, news of simple ways to save money spreads rapidly, especially if print quality is also improved. And after hearing of the many benefits of using ProImage OnColor ECO ink optimization software experienced by The Franklin Press in North Carolina, The Northeast Georgian has also become an enthusiastic user of the service.

Both newspapers belong to Community Newspapers, Inc., headquartered in Athens, Ga., and they have both joined the rapidly increasing number of companies using the ProImage software in the Cloud.

"We are saving more than 25 percent of ink cost and importantly, we also have less waste at start-up," says Lee Dunlap, press foreman at Georgia Mountain Press that prints The Northeast Georgian as well as a number of surrounding counties' community newspapers.

"The service is easy to use. It's a simple click and drag. We now use less ink on process color images and I am able to brighten the other color elements on the page. It also makes it easier to hide poor registration caused by slightly crooked plates," he adds.

"OnColor ECO SaaS is a service in the Cloud that allows you to process your color pages over the Web without having to purchase the application itself," states Rick Shafranek, VP sales and marketing, New-ProImage America. "There are no service contracts or long-term commitments. You pay only for the number of files you choose to submit, and you get the benefit of using a professional ink optimization solution without investing capital in hardware or software.  You save money with your first file submitted."

OnColor ECO processes color PDF files so that they require substantially less ink when printed while still retaining their original color hue.  The software is available as a service and also as an on-premise solution.

The number of pages and copies that Georgia Mountain Press prints varies from week to week but mid-week it prints on average between 50,000 and 65,000 copies of approximately 100 pages. Community Newspapers Inc. includes 28 newspapers in Georgia, Florida and North Carolina.
