SNPA President-Elect Bob Weil has announced his resignation from the SNPA Board of Directors, in advance of his retirement as vice president/operations of The McClatchy Company at the end of June.  Weil was next in line to be nominated as president of SNPA at the upcoming News Industry Summit in Savannah.

Instead, SNPA Treasurer David Dunn-Rankin will be nominated as president in October.  Dunn-Rankin is president and publisher of The Sun in Port Charlotte, Fla. The SNPA Nominating Committee will choose a new treasurer and president-elect later this summer.

In announcing his decision to step down from the SNPA board, Weil said he will be going to work for a family-owned company in Pittsburgh following his retirement from McClatchy.  The SNPA bylaws require board members to be employed in the newspaper industry.

"I've enjoyed my time on the SNPA board and deeply regret not being able to be an active member of what I regard as one of the best trade organizations in our industry," Weil said.

He said the personal relationships and engagement of SNPA members on the important topics of the day have been "immensely rewarding," and said it has been "a privilege" to serve on the SNPA board.

Weil will continue to serve the newspaper industry as chairman of the American Press Institute and as a member of the executive committee of the Newspaper Association of America.
