Tim Thompson named new publisher of The News Herald

Tim Thompson, a veteran publisher with ties to newspapers across the Southeast, is the new publisher of The News Herald in Panama City, Fla., and will also oversee operations in Bonifay, Chipley, Port St. Joe and Apalachicola.

The announcement by Halifax Media Group, the parent company of The News Herald, followed a two-month search that included candidates from across the country and ended with one already familiar with the area and the company.

Ironically, it was during a sabbatical from a long newspaper career that Thompson not only realized how much he loved the business, but also discovered Panama City would be a great place to live when he decided to return. Thompson, 55, was publisher of The Tuscaloosa News, now owned by Halifax, from 2000-2012 before shifting gears and taking a position as a consultant.
