A former business owner with more than 25 years experience in the newspaper industry has been named the new publisher of the Daily Press in Victorville, Calif., and the Desert Dispatch in Barstow.

Donnie Welch succeeds Al Frattura, who departed for Minnesota in August after almost two years with the paper.

Welch, who has worked for several newspapers, recently oversaw revenue development for the Ventura County Star. During his time there, Welch was in charge of budgeting, training, new product development, staff management and building an operation that grows revenue through multi-media solutions.

From his new office in Victorville, Welch will oversee the Daily Press, the Desert Dispatch in Barstow and four weekly publications: the Apple Valley Review, the Hesperia Star, the Lucerne Valley Leader and the Spanish language publication El Mojave.
