An affiliate of Boone Newspapers Inc. has acquired the LaGrange (Ga.) Daily News from Civitas Media.

USA TODAY Sports Media Group has added Golfweek to its portfolio to expand its coverage and commitment to golf across the USA TODAY NETWORK.

For Nate Rodriguez, participation in the NEX GEN program did not go according to plan. Still, he said, it helped him handle a career crisis.

About three months into the 2015-16 mentoring program, Rodriguez suddenly lost his job at the Las Vegas Review-Journal following its purchase by local billionaire Sheldon Adelson. Selected first- and second-level executives were let go or re-assigned, Rodriguez said. At the time he was senior director of advertising/classified, agency, niche and magazines.

Rodriguez needed some mentoring in a hurry, and is grateful to his assigned NEX GEN mentor, Jeremy Halbreich, chairman and CEO of AIM Texas Media in Dallas.

The publisher of The Fairbury Journal-News has purchased the paper from its long-time owner.

Timothy Linscott, who has held the position of publisher for the past year, bought the paper from Fred Arnold and McBattas Publishing.

The Dallas Morning News has signed a letter of intent to move its headquarters to The Statler Library, formerly known as the Old Dallas Central Library, at the corner of Commerce and Harwood Streets in downtown Dallas. After 67 years at its home on Young Street, the Morning News is taking the next step in its transformation to a digitally-focused media company. The move is planned for mid-2017.

If your newspaper, information center or multimedia content operation is located on the eastern side of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina or North Carolina, then right now you should be figuring out what your staff knows about how to cover a hurricane.

Here are some suggestions from someone who has seen Gulf Coast storms first-hand.

Paxton Media Group has purchased three newspapers in Indiana and Illinois – the Princeton Daily Clarion, the Mount Carmel Register and The Standard – from Brehm Communications, according to Randy Cope, Cribb, Greene & Cope, who represented Brehm in the transaction.

Three Chicks Publications, LLC has sold the assets of The Wellman Advance and the Riverside Current in Iowa to Anamosa Publications owned by Jim and Bridget Johnson. The sale was effective Sept. 28.

Slechta Communications, a group of three community newspapers in Iowa, has been purchased by Anamosa Publications. Slechta Communications publishes The Kalona News, The Lone Tree Reporter and The Highland Review. Ron and Helen Slectha have owned the company since June 1, 1992. They plan to retire.
