Dallas Morning News reintroduces itself with campaign designed to win over new readers 9/24/19

How do you make print journalism matter again? That was the big question for Dallas agency GoDo Discovery Co when they were presented with the challenge of coming up with a campaign for the 135-year-old Dallas Morning News in Texas.

The answer was to reintroduce the paper to the city, especially to younger audiences who may have never picked up a paper in their lives. They had to convince the city that the paper still matters and should play a role in their lives. To reach generations raised on digital, they went about it in a decidedly analog manner – they hit the streets and talked to people to find out what matters to them in their city.

What came out of those interviews makes up the 'What Matters' campaign, which is being rolled out over the next two years. It consists of posters, stickers, free copies of the paper and a lot of live events in the community where the type states what matters, like "Local Journalism Matters," "Democracy Matters" and statements on coffee cups like "Free Caffeine Matters."

The Dallas Morning News pours more Fuel into esports coverage firestorm 8/6/19

The Dallas Morning News announced Monday that it will launch coverage of the Dallas Fuel professional esports franchise within the SportsDay area of its digital products, found at: https://dallasnews.com/esports. The team, headquartered in Dallas and owned by esports organization Envy Gaming, is a founding member of the 20-team Overwatch League. The News intends to provide intensive, digital-only coverage as the team enters the final weeks of the regular season.

Former Dallas Morning News downtown campus sold to local developer Ray Washburne 5/28/19

A. H. Belo Corporation has sold the former campus of The Dallas Morning News downtown for $28 million to local developer and co-owner of Highland Park Village Ray Washburne.

The purchase price is made up of $5.6 million in cash paid at the closing and a two-year, seller-financed promissory note of $22.4 million. The eight-acre campus includes two buildings that total about 325,000 square feet, plus a parking garage.

Texas Supreme Court tosses out libel lawsuit against Dallas Morning News 5/14/19

The Texas Supreme Court has ruled in favor of The Dallas Morning News and staff writer Kevin Krause in a libel lawsuit brought by a North Texas drug-compounding business and its founders.

The state's high court unanimously reversed a judgment by a Fort Worth appeals court and said The News published stories that accurately quoted court documents and didn't report that the pharmacies were "actually guilty of anything."

The justices directed the trial court to dismiss the case and award legal fees to The News.
