BH Media appoints Alton Brown as new Journal publisher, regional VP

The opportunity to become publisher of the Winston-Salem (N.C.) Journal dovetailed the professional and personal paths neatly for Alton Brown, who took over the duties May 16.

Brown replaced Kevin Kampman, who retired May 15, as publisher and vice president of BH Media Group's group of 11 newspapers in North Carolina that includes The News & Record of Greensboro.

Brown comes to the Journal from serving for nearly four years as regional publisher for BH Media in Lynchburg, Va. Brown and his wife, Sherri, plan to move to the local community shortly.

"When I heard that Kevin had decided to retire, I knew absolutely this would be a job I would be interested in because it represented a chance to move up in BH Media," Brown said. "Winston-Salem also is an area I've come to know over the years from having a sister-in-law and her family here. I have played golf at a number of courses, dined in many restaurants and attended many theater and social activities, so we view this as a win-win for us."
