Jenkins succeeds Burlington’s Times-News editor Rich Jackson, who is taking a new job in Indiana.

“I am really excited to be a part of the Times-News organization,” Jenkins said. “I know that Rich is going to be a hard act to follow. I am going to do everything I can, work as hard as I can, and do my best to keep making both newspapers better.

“I love community journalism,” Jenkins added. “I have worked in it my entire career. I am looking forward to continuing what Rich has been doing here in Burlington and getting to know the community and the newspaper.”

“I have enjoyed getting to know Scott and his work as executive editor of the Lexington Dispatch for the last several years,” said Paul Mauney, outgoing publisher of The Dispatch, the Times-News and the Courier-Tribune of Asheboro. “He’s a fine editor and good person that brings a wealth of experience with him from his time at several North Carolina papers, including Concord, Salisbury and Lexington. I’m confident that he will be a great fit in this new role and will grow to be an engaged leader in the Alamance County community.”

Jill Doss-Raines, who is currently lifestyles editor for The Dispatch, will take on more day-to-day responsibilities in The Dispatch newsroom. Details about her new role will be announced soon.

Jenkins started his career at the Daily Independent in Kannapolis then worked for the Independent Tribune when the Daily Independent merged with the Concord Tribune. He went to the Salisbury Post and worked there as a reporter, night editor and news editor for 17 years. Jenkins joined GateHouse Media when he joined the Lexington Dispatch in November 2016.

“One of the things that executive editors are supposed to do is have a succession plan in place and Scott Jenkins was always at the top of that,” Jackson said. “I know him as an excellent editor but an even better person.”

Jackson will become executive editor for the Bloomington Herald-Times in Bloomington, Ind. He also will be involved in 10 other newspapers within the area.

Jackson’s last day in Burlington was June 11. Jenkins took over on June 17 and wll continue leading Lexington.

“We are excited to have Scott leading our team here in Burlington and will continue with the fine work that is currently being done,” said Todd Benz, the new publisher for The Dispatch, the Times-News and the Courier-Tribune in Asheboro. “We’re lucky to have Scott ready to go, and he will lead the team without missing a beat.”
