Steve Nakutin has been promoted to general manager of the Victor Valley Daily Press (Victorville, Calif.)

Nakutin, a Southern California native, had served as director of advertising at the Daily Press about two years before being named general manager.

His move into the new role comes after the death of former president and publisher Steve Hunt in August – a transition Nakutin says he doesn't take lightly.

"I am excited and honored to succeed Steve Hunt as the leader of the Daily Press," Nakutin said. "Steve's passing was a loss not only for all of us at the Daily Press, but also for everyone in the High Desert. My job going forward is to continue to improve the ways we can engage with our readers, local businesses and community."

Nakutin enters the position with more than 30 years of experience in the newspaper business.

In his new role, he will have direct oversight of all departments and serve as point-of-contact for businesses and the community at large. He will also continue working with the the Daily Press' advertising team to attract new customers and keep existing ones through innovative promotional campaigns.

Jesse Shockley, regional vice president of GateHouse Media's Far West Region, said he was pleased to announce Nakutin's new role.

"Steve has a long history of success in our industry," he said. "After the loss of Steve Hunt, Steve Nakutin stepped up and has been an invaluable asset as acting GM, and I am very pleased to see him in this role permanently."
