Local hospital sponsors pink bags for breast cancer awareness

Posted

In addition to the traditional tabloid that it publishes for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this year The Mountain Press in Sevierville, Tenn., sold a sponsorship for pink bags to a local hospital.

To guarantee that everyone received their newspaper in a pink bag for a period of seven days, the paper paid its carriers to bag The Mountain Press in these special bags.

Publisher Jana Thomasson said the company that produced the bags required a minimum of 50,000 bags to be printed.  For a 7,000-circulation paper, this provided enough bags for seven days of delivery, with a little extra that the paper used until the bags ran out.

Thomasson said the carriers usually have to purchase their own bags.  So, the carriers were very pleased to be given this free supply of bags, and to be paid a fee to package the newspapers in them.

The hospital paid a flat fee for the bag sponsorship and Thomasson said the newspaper made a nice profit.
