GateHouse Media, Savannah Morning News acquire printing facility operations
GateHouse Media and the Savannah Morning News have acquired from Morris Communications Company the printing operations located on Chatham Parkway in Savannah. The announcement was made by Savannah Morning News Publisher Michael Traynor.
"The Savannah printing operation is equipped with some of the best and most efficient printing and inserting equipment available to the industry," said Traynor. "The versatility of the equipment and the skills of the production team give us an opportunity to evolve, grow and further diversify our revenue streams."
The sale of the Savannah Morning News to GateHouse Media in October 2017 did not include the Morris printing operations for the Savannah Morning News and other regional products. With this announcement, the printing operations come back under local oversight and management of the newspaper.
The main feature of the production operation is a Man Roland Uniset 75 printing press that is capable of printing up to 36 broadsheet or 72 tabloid pages in full color. The press includes automated color registration, shaft-less drives and the ability to run multiple page sizes at speeds reaching 75,000 copies per hour.
