Terry Connor, a 33-year newspaper veteran of the South and Southwest, has been appointed publisher of The Cullman (Ala.) Times, effective immediately.

Connor moves to the newspaper from The Norman (Okla.) Transcript, where he's served as publisher for the last four years. Both papers are owned by Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., a Montgomery, Ala.-based media company.

"Terry is a son of Alabama and possesses the leadership skills to move The Cullman Times forward, on the print and digital fronts," said Steve McPhaul, executive vice president and chief operating officer of CNHI.  "His background has given him a special understanding of the purpose and the mission of community newspapers."

Connor grew up in Montgomery, beginning his newspaper career in Enterprise, Ala., upon graduation from Auburn University. At various times he served as publisher of newspapers in Marianna, Fla., and in Americus, Cordele and Dalton, Ga.  He was a senior vice president and regional manager of CNHI newspapers in Mississippi, Texas and Oklahoma for several years.

"Although The Norman Transcript is a great newspaper with an outstanding staff in a great community, I'm excited to be returning home to Alabama at this time," said Connor. "Cullman is a wonderful place, and I am looking forward to serving the community, its advertisers and its readers with a first-rate newspaper."
