Majority of smartphone owners now routinely use news apps
2014 RJI Mobile Media News Consumption Survey
More than six in 10 smartphone owners are regularly using news apps on their smartphones, according to the third report of the latest mobile media survey from the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI). Nearly three in 10 are using smartphone news apps branded by newspapers.
Men used an average of two smartphone news apps and women used an average of 1.5 in the week prior to participating in the survey.
Nearly 1,200 randomly selected U.S. adults participated in RJI's third annual Mobile Media News Consumption survey between Jan. 1 and March 31. This phone survey focused exclusively on the use of smartphones and touch-screen tablets with mobile operating systems.
