Keith Albertson has stepped down as executive editor of The Times in Gainesville, Ga., to pursue a new career after nearly 34 years with the Gainesville newspaper.

Albertson began as sports editor of The Times in 1985 and helped oversee the paper's coverage of the 1996 Olympics. He later moved on to roles managing the copydesk in 2000, managing editor in 2004 and executive editor in 2014.

He will become managing editor of a nonprofit magazine in the Atlanta area.

Shannon Casas, director of content, becomes chief manager of The Times' news operation, which includes five-day print publication, digital platforms, magazines and special publications. Casas was a member of SNPA's NEX-GEN Class of 2015-16.

"It's been a great run, but it's time to pass the baton," Albertson said. "The Times will be in good hands. I'm looking forward to a bit slower pace, though I'll surely miss the newsroom vibe."
