Community content publishing service helps reporters save time

Posted

GateHouse Media's Center for News and Design is providing other newspaper companies with its unique Community Content publishing service, which helps free a reporter's time to focus on important local stories.

GateHouse Media, which is a Strategic Partnership provider with SNPA, is offering this service at a 15 percent discount to SNPA members.

"At GateHouse Media, we've found that at many of our newspapers reporters were spending too much time "processing" content – preparing calendar briefs, re-writing news releases, typing in letters to the editor, compiling school supply lists and performing similar time-consuming tasks," said David Arkin, senior vice president of content and product development for GateHouse Media.

So how do you give your reporters the opportunity and time to do their best work?

"While valuable and important to readers, this routine content can be
very time-consuming to produce amid other local priorities," said Amber Krosel, director of community content for GateHouse Media. "To solve the dilemma, we created a separate team of journalists – content producers, writers and editors – based in Austin to create hyper-local content; we're now working with 160-plus papers."

At GateHouse Media, the Community Content team works with newspapers to establish content they're interested in having the team publish. The Community Content team writes, edits and even makes calls to local organizations to confirm information. The team can publish directly to a newspaper's website.

"Ask us how we can help free time for your reporters, keep the important hyper-local content in the paper and on the website, and do it all for a very affordable price," Arkin said. "This service has been a game changer at GateHouse."
