David Joyner appointed Eagle-Tribune executive editor

David Joyner, a veteran news executive with Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc., has been appointed executive editor of The Eagle-Tribune of North Andover, Mass.

Joyner will also oversee editorial operations of CNHI's other north of Boston newspapers: Salem News, Gloucester Daily Times, Newburyport Daily News, Haverhill Gazette, Andover Townsman, and the Derry (N.H.) News.

He is a former managing editor of The Eagle-Tribune, and also served as a reporter and editor for the Gloucester Daily Times and managing editor of the Salem News.

Joyner joined the CNHI corporate editorial staff in February of 2007 as executive editor, and was later promoted to vice president of editorial content and then vice president-national editor in charge of state reporters and the company's Washington, D.C. Bureau.

"David Joyner has been at the forefront of bringing CNHI newsrooms into the digital era," said Bill Ketter, the company's senior vice president for news. "He is a traditionalist when it comes to the core purpose of journalism and a futurist for online as well as print news-gathering and storytelling."

Joyner said he's delighted to return to daily journalism and the opportunity to create news content that matters to readers.

Joyner succeeds the late Alan White as executive editor of The Eagle-Tribune, a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize and many other national and New England journalism awards over the years. White died unexpectedly a month ago after working at the paper for four decades.

Joyner is a graduate of George Washington University, and a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University in 2012. He began his journalism career as a reporter at newspapers in Jonesboro, Ga., and Montgomery, Ala. He resides in Andover, Mass., with his wife, Rebecca, and their three children.
