Doughton plans to retire as publisher of the Gainesville Sun


James Doughton, regional publisher of seven newspapers, including the Gainesville (Fla.) Sun and the Ocala Star-Banner, will retire at the end of the year.

"Jim will play an integral part in working with me to choose the right leader to follow him and who is a great fit for these very important communities," said Patrick Dorsey, regional vice president for GateHouse Media, owner of the newspapers.

"It's been a great honor and privilege to work with so many dedicated and wonderful people who love this business," Doughton, 70, said.
