Victoria Advocate names Cobler editor, publisher

Victoria Advocate Editor Chris Cobler has added the role of publisher to his responsibilities.

Cobler, 57, has been the editor of the Advocate since 2007. Since he became editor, the Advocate has won dozens of state and national awards for its journalism, including being honored recently as the Newspaper of the Year by the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors.

"Cobler has led an award-winning team for 11 years. He believes deeply in community journalism," said John Roberts, chairman of the board. "He was a natural choice as the first non-family publisher to represent the newspaper, our family and board."

Cobler follows as publisher Dan Easton, 46, who plans to focus on Gordon Equities, a real estate division of M. Roberts Media and Affect Digital Media, the digital marketing agency he co-founded.
