Wick Communications publisher emeritus Walter Wick dies at home 1/2/17

Walter M. Wick, an inductee in the Arizona Newspaper Association Hall of Fame and publisher emeritus of the Sierra Vista Herald/Bisbee Daily Review, died Christmas morning at his home in Hereford, Ariz.

Along with brother Bob Wick, Walter Wick guided ownership of Wick Communications for more than a half century.

Former Greeneville Sun co-owner, columnist Arne Jones dies 12/16/16

Martha Arnold Susong (Arne) Jones, who played a variety of significant roles at The Greeneville (Tenn.) Sun for some six decades, died Friday, Dec. 16, at Laughlin Memorial Hospital. She was 101 years of age.


Globe names new chief executive 12/13/16

Doug Franklin, a former door-to-door newspaper subscription salesman who later served as publisher of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and chief financial officer of media conglomerate Cox Enterprises, will become the new chief executive of The Boston Globe.


Eldridge appointed publisher of Corbin, London papers 12/12/16

Dave Eldridge, a 35-year newspaper executive, has been appointed publisher of the Corbin Times-Tribune and The London Sentinel-Echo in south-central Kentucky.

Eldridge currently serves as publisher of the Richmond Register in Richmond, Ky. He will continue in that role with his expanded regional responsibilities at the Corbin and London properties.


Former Herald-Journal publisher Roger Quinn remembered 12/7/16

The Herald-Journal in Spartanburg, S.C., is mourning the loss of one of its own after former publisher Roger Quinn died recently. Quinn served as publisher from 2009 to July 2012 when he was promoted to serve as regional publisher of the company's Central Region, covering 12 newspapers in Florida, Louisiana and California.


Ricky Mathews to retire by Jan. 1 12/6/16

Hearst Newspapers names Michael Sacks senior vice president of operations 12/5/16

Michael Sacks has been named senior vice president of operations for Hearst Newspapers. The announcement was made by Hearst Newspapers President Mark Aldam and Houston Chronicle President and Publisher John McKeon. Sacks begins his new position immediately and will report to Aldam.
