Cox Enterprises has announced that Alexander C. Taylor, great-grandson of company Founder James M. Cox, has been promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer. He will continue reporting to Chief Executive Officer John M. Dyer.

McClatchy names Tim Grieve and Anders Gyllenhaal to new roles 8/2/16

McClatchy has announced that veteran digital journalist Tim Grieve will succeed Anders Gyllenhaal as vice president of news this fall.

Gyllenhaal, 64, has been McClatchy's vice president, news, and Washington editor since 2010. He will leave the vice president position in October in accordance with retirement policies for corporate officers. After a brief hiatus, he will return in a new role as senior editor and director of leadership and development. Grieve will move into the vice president role on October 4, 2016.

New Times Record publisher pushes community journalism 8/2/16

Crystal Costa, former advertising and marketing director for the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (Fayetteville), took the helm of the Southwest Times Record in Fort Smith, Ark., in July. She is the first woman to hold the distinction in the publication's 132-year history. Tom Stallbaumer's last day as publisher was June 6 after three years on the job.

Hometown publisher 8/2/16

James Phillips is back at the Daily Mountain Eagle in Jasper, Ala., for the third time. This time he's the publisher, a publisher who covers news stories, ramps up the paper's social media presence and thinks up promotions.

A native of Walker County in coal country northwest of Birmingham, Phillips, 38, started out as a football stringer out of high school and later served as managing editor. He's been back in town for a couple of months.

Robert Gruber named publisher of The Fayetteville Observer 8/1/16

Robert Gruber has been named publisher for new GateHouse Media acquisition The Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer, as well as several military newspapers and niche products, the IWANNA classified shoppers, and the Observer's regional commercial printing operations.

Previously, Gruber was publisher of the Star News in Wilmington, N.C. In January 2015, GateHouse Media purchased the Star News along with 13 other regional newspapers.

Ed Graves named senior group publisher 8/1/16

GateHouse Media, the owners of The Pine Bluff (Ark.) Commercial and The White Hall Journal, has named Ed Graves as the new senior group publisher.

Graves, who will be based in Pine Bluff, replaces Byron Tate of The Commercial and Shane Allen of The Journal. Tate and Allen are no longer with the company.
